I’ve put together some of my most frequently asked questions as a Copywriter about Copywriting, Content planning and how you can work with a copywriter – let me know if you have a question I haven’t covered and I’ll add it to the list.

What does a Copywriter do?

Copywriting is more than just putting words together. It’s a collaborative relationship, where you provide your story, in your own words, and I craft it into a strong message that not only sells your brand, but engages your audience with your offerings. Once the copy is written, you have an opportunity to review it, and give feedback, and I’ll make changes until you’re happy (usually two reviews are enough to get your message the way you want it).

How does it all work?

Copywriting is rarely a click and book service unless you have a really straightforward request. 

After an initial chat, when we’ve set the parameters for your work, I’ll send a detailed proposal and invoice, then we’re ready to start.

In most cases, copywriting for your business is a relationship, where we get to know each other a bit, I ask you lots of questions about you, your business, your customers and your copywriting needs, and you make sure I’m a good fit for your business.

This is known as the briefing stage and might be a phone call, chat via zoom, or via email.

I then take all the information extracted in those chats and put together your content. 

The next stages usually involve a little bit of back and forth while we edit and refine your content to make sure it’s perfect.

Once it’s all set to go, I’ll send a final sign-off document and the content is yours to publish. 

What does copywriting cost?

That depends a lot on what you want to be written.  Every project has a different scope, but some factors that will affect the price include:

  • How much content you need
  • The level of editing you need (some people prefer a rougher draft they can add their own touch to)
  • The level of research you require
  • How many meetings we need



How many pages do I need on my website?
While some newer businesses can make do with just a landing page, or three key pages, most websites need at least 5 pages to get started. The most common pages would be
  • Home page – usually the longest page on your site
  • About me – telling your clients your story and your points of difference
  • Work with me/Services – Overview of what you have to offer
  • Contact
  • FAQ’s
Depending on your business, you might also include – testimonials, media, events, or landing pages for specific programs or promotions.
How long will it take to appear at the top of Google?
The time it takes for your website to appear on page 1 of Google depends on a number of factors. It depends on the search phrase people are using to find your website and the number of other websites that are also available for those search phrases. Nobody can truly say how long it will take for your website to appear at the top of search engine results pages (including people who actually work for Google), however there are a number of factors that can improve your chances. Building keywords and SEO optimisation into your website is a good start. Creating unique and interesting content on a regular basis for your website is also critical to increase your visibility among search engines. Launching your website and then forgetting about it is a surefire way to get lost among the noise.
